Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk has come out in support of Ranveer Singh amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the actor’s exit from Don 3. Speaking about the dispute between Ranveer and Excel Entertainment, Ammy questioned the timing of the producers’ actions and suggested that the actor should not be asked to pay the reported Rs 45 crore compensation.The controversy surfaced months after Ranveer achieved massive box-office success with the Dhurandhar franchise. However, celebrations were reportedly overshadowed when Excel Entertainment sought Rs 45 crore in damages, alleging that the actor exited Don 3 just weeks before the film was scheduled to go on floors. The matter remains unresolved.
Ammy Virk questions producers’ timing
During a conversation with Connect Cine, Ammy Virk weighed in on the dispute and expressed confidence in Ranveer’s integrity. The two actors previously worked together in 83.While acknowledging that he was unaware of all the details of the disagreement, Ammy said he found it difficult to believe that Ranveer could be at fault.“I feel, when he had a few flops, then you (Excel) could have started Don 3. Then they ignored him. Now that Dhurandhar is a hit, they are asking for their money back,” he said.The actor further argued that Ranveer should not be expected to pay such a large amount.“They can do whatever they want. Whatever they are owed of Rs 2-4 crore, take that and move on. Who is going to give Rs 45 crore?” Ammy remarked.
‘It’s not Ranveer’s fault’
Continuing his support for the actor, Ammy said that legal action would not necessarily lead to a resolution.“This is not Ranveer’s fault. They can file a case if they want. These kinds of cases go nowhere. They go on for 20 years,” he said with a laugh.
FWICE had issued non-cooperation directive
The dispute escalated last month when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer. The federation claimed that the actor had failed to respond to repeated requests to appear before the body and discuss the matter, despite being sent three reminders.The directive came more than a month after Farhan Akhtar approached FWICE with a complaint regarding Ranveer’s exit from Don 3. The producers alleged that the actor’s withdrawal from the project resulted in pre-production losses amounting to Rs 45 crore.
Industry bodies step in to mediate
Soon after the directive was issued, Ranveer responded through an official statement released by his spokesperson, stating that he had chosen to maintain silence while discussions were ongoing.In a significant development, FWICE later withdrew its non-cooperation directive following mediation efforts by the Producers Guild of India, CINTAA and other industry bodies.Reports also suggested that Ranveer responded through legal channels, after which discussions were initiated to resolve the matter amicably.The controversy comes at a time when Ranveer is enjoying one of the most successful phases of his career, with the Dhurandhar franchise emerging as a major box-office triumph.
