Nearly six years after Chadwick Boseman‘s death, the late actor’s family is ensuring that his passion for storytelling lives on. His older brothers, Kevin Boseman and Derrick Boseman, have launched Boseman Family LLC, a creative venture dedicated to developing projects in storytelling, the arts and community impact rather than operating as a traditional family business.The company, formed in the fall of 2025, aims to honour the Black Panther star’s vision while creating opportunities for artists, filmmakers and emerging voices in entertainment.
Chadwick Boseman‘s legacy inspires Boseman Family LLC
Speaking to AfroTech, Kevin Boseman said the idea for Boseman Family LLC was inspired by Chadwick Boseman’s own production company and the growing interest in projects celebrating his life and work.“What inspired it was, of course, Chad had his own company, and there have been some offers that have come in to do work that is inspired by him, and we sort of felt the best way to tackle business, to partner with other businesses, was to start a business,” Kevin said.Derrick Boseman revealed that the family took its time before deciding whom to work with.“I always ask God to put people in my path that will move me, or us, in the direction that he would have us to go in,” he said, adding that after turning down several proposals over the years, they eventually met two women who became the company’s management team and helped shape its vision.
Boseman brothers want to build a creative ecosystem
Rather than focusing solely on financial wealth, Kevin and Derrick Boseman say they want the company to create long-term opportunities for artists and storytellers.Kevin pointed out that entertainment has seen several successful family dynasties and believes the Boseman family has similar creative potential.“There are a lot of family dynasties in entertainment,” he said, referencing families such as the Jacksons and the Wayans. He added that many members of their extended family are singers, actors, filmmakers, photographers and musicians.He hopes Boseman Family LLC will become “an ecosystem” where family members and collaborators can support each other’s creative pursuits while nurturing new talent.
Chadwick Boseman’s play Deep Azure continues to reach new audiences
The launch of the company comes shortly after Chadwick Boseman’s play Deep Azure premiered in the UK at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, a milestone that holds special meaning for the family.Derrick Boseman admitted that grief remains an ongoing journey even years after Chadwick Boseman’s death.“Grief is such a tricky monster,” he said, explaining that every new project connected to Chadwick brings back memories of his younger brother. “Grief is an ongoing process.”Kevin said creative work has also helped him process the loss. He recalled performing with Dance Against Cancer in New York in 2021, where he spoke about both his own cancer journey and Chadwick’s while using dance as a way to channel grief.
Kevin Boseman recalls Chadwick writing Deep Azure
One of Kevin Boseman’s fondest memories is of the period when Chadwick first moved to New York after graduating from Howard University.Kevin offered his younger brother a place to stay while he toured with Alvin Ailey, giving him space to focus on writing. It was during that time that Chadwick began working on Deep Azure.Kevin remembered being amazed by the play’s unique style, saying Chadwick blended Shakespearean verse with modern language and hip-hop influences.He added that seeing the play staged at Shakespeare’s Globe after his brother’s passing fulfilled a dream he had long hoped would become reality.
Chadwick Boseman’s family teases future projects
Looking ahead to what would have been Chadwick Boseman’s 50th birthday on November 29, 2026, the Boseman brothers said they are continuing to develop projects that reflect the late actor’s values and artistic vision.Derrick said Chadwick had encouraged both brothers to use his work as inspiration to move forward in their own lives.“I think he’d be proud,” Derrick said. “Fame was not something that Chad was looking for. Chad really just enjoyed doing the work, and fame came with that, but I think he would be proud of us.”
