Kangana Ranaut has come out in support of young singing talent and Bihar MLA Maithili Thakur, who was trolled for visiting Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja pandal in a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Kangana asked why critics feel hurt whenever politicians try to make their own lives better.
Why Maithili Thakur was trolled
A few days ago, Maithili Thakur arrived at the popular Lalbaugcha Raja pandal in a blue Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Soon after, many social media users questioned how the singer-turned-MLA could own such a luxury SUV within a year of starting her political journey. The on-road price of the vehicle in Mumbai can go beyond Rs 13 crore.

Reacting on Instagram Stories, Kangana Ranaut wrote, “Some people a**** start to burn whenever they see politicians living a good life. Now our young MLA is getting trolled for using a luxury car. We may be inclined to social service, but we also have our own careers, life and popularity. We selflessly work for public welfare, but some people get so hurt if they see us living well, why not? Why can’t we also live well? We are not even interested in public money but to expect us to remain poor and lifeless is so irrational.“
Who is Maithili Thakur?
Maithili Thakur is a folk singer who entered politics as a BJP candidate in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections. She is trained in Indian classical music and folk traditions, and her songs range from Maithili and Bhojpuri numbers to devotional bhajans and filmi-style tracks.Maithili comes from Benipatti in Bihar’s Madhubani district. Her family later moved to Dwarka in New Delhi to support her music training. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, is a music teacher, and she learned music from him and her grandfather from a very young age. She gained wider recognition in 2017 after appearing on the reality show Rising Star India, and has since built a strong presence on YouTube, where she shares classical and folk renditions.
Kangana earlier backed Trisha Krishnan
A few days ago, Kangana also spoke in support of actor Trisha Krishnan, who landed in a controversy last month over her presence at the Independence Day 2026 celebrations in Chennai. Without naming Trisha directly, Kangana said, “You have seen what happened in Tamil Nadu, where a very respected artist and actress was involved in a matter where the relationship was between both parties. However, when it comes to abuses and character lynching, it is always the woman who is targeted.“
