Nana Patekar passed away in Goa on October 8, Thursday morning. Pune has been gearing up for heightened security and possible traffic restrictions on Thursday evening as political leaders, film personalities and other prominent figures are expected to travel to Donaje for the final rites of the veteran actor.According to Pune Mirror, Nana’s mortal remains are expected to reach Pune by air after the completion of medical and legal formalities in Goa. His last rites are likely to be held at his farmhouse in Donaje, near Khadakwasla, between 9 pm and 10 pm.The expected movement of VIP convoys and a large number of mourners has prompted traffic authorities to prepare for additional pressure on the Sinhagad Road corridor, which already witnesses considerable congestion during peak hours.Pune city and rural traffic police are coordinating security and traffic arrangements to ensure that the funeral procession does not severely disrupt regular vehicular movement. A dedicated route for VIP vehicles is being planned, while possible diversions are also being worked out to manage the additional traffic. More police personnel are expected to be deployed at key points along the route.Preparations are also underway at the Donaje farmhouse. The Public Works Department and local authorities are making arrangements at the venue, while the administration is preparing for a potentially large turnout of fans and members of the public who may gather to pay their last respects to the actor.Meanwhile, Nana’s post-mortem examination was underway at Goa Medical College after his son reached Goa and completed the required formalities. The procedure was expected to be completed in the afternoon.Following the medical examination, Nana’s mortal remains are expected to be kept at the hospital briefly to allow family members and those close to him to pay their respects. The remains will then be taken to Mopa airport for the flight to Pune.The mortal remains are expected to arrive at Pune airport at around 6 pm, following which the final journey to Donaje will take place amid heightened security.Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation as evening peak-hour traffic, VIP movement and the expected gathering of fans could put additional pressure on Sinhagad Road and adjoining routes. The traffic plan is being coordinated accordingly to ensure the movement of both the funeral party and regular commuters remains as smooth as possible.
