Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has apologised to his teammates and fans after receiving a straight red card during their 1-0 LaLiga victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday. The Brazilian now faces the possibility of missing the crucial El Clásico against Barcelona on October 25, depending on the disciplinary committee’s decision.Vinícius came on as a second-half substitute and was sent off around 20 minutes later after a VAR review showed him pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair. His apparent second goal was ruled out, leaving Real Madrid to defend their narrow lead with 10 players. After the match, the 26-year-old took to social media to apologise, writing, “sorry to the team and the fans.”
Possible suspension for El Clásico
Spanish Football Federation rules classify hair-pulling as violent conduct. Under Article 130, such an offence can result in a suspension of one to three matches if no injury is caused.Real Madrid’s next three league fixtures are against Sevilla, Barcelona and Racing Santander. A ban covering the October 25 clash at Camp Nou would be a major setback for the Spanish giants, with Vinícius awaiting the final decision.
Barcelona maintain perfect start
