‘The Vvaan: Force of the Forest’ makers have acquired the sync rights to musician Sargam Vaish’s version of Aigiri Nandini after he alleged that his master recording was used in the Sidharth Malhotra-starrer’s trailer without his permission. According to Mid-Day, Balaji Motion Pictures’ legal team met Vaish following his complaint and acquired the rights. While the issue has been resolved, the musician said the source of the recording’s leak remains unknown.
Sargam Vaish alleges his Aigiri Nandini recording was used without permission
On September 20, musician Sargam Vaish took to Instagram to raise concerns over the use of his version of ‘Aigiri Nandini’ in the trailer of ‘The Vvaan: Force of the Forest’. Vaish alleged that the master recording used in the Sidharth Malhotra-starrer was created by him and that he had not given permission for it to be used. The musician said he was surprised to hear his own recording in the trailer of director Deepak Kumar Mishra’s film. He claimed that the version featured in the trailer was originally created for a Ram Gopal Varma film and that he owns the master rights.“This is the version I had created for Ram Gopal Varma’s film. I own the master rights. No one had approached me for an NOC or permission,” he recalled.
Balaji Motion Pictures acquires sync rights after complaint
The matter appears to have been addressed within a day of Vaish raising the issue publicly. According to Mid-Day, the legal team of Ektaa R Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures met the musician on the evening of September 21 and acquired the sync rights to the track. Vaish said the production house’s representatives were cooperative during the discussion and clarified that he appreciated the way the matter was handled. The acquisition of the sync rights addresses the immediate rights-related concern raised by Vaish regarding the use of his recording in the trailer.“Balaji’s executives and lawyers have been cooperative. We met them today; they were kind and apologetic, even though they didn’t cause [the leak]. They are taking the sync rights for the track. I am grateful for the fact that we were able to resolve it so smoothly,” he told Mid-Day.
Source of the recording leak remains unknown
The musician said that the source of the leak has not yet been identified and that efforts are underway to determine how the recording made its way to the film’s trailer. The development comes as ‘The Vvaan: Force of the Forest,’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, continues its promotional campaign ahead of its theatrical release.“The source of the leak is not known to us yet. We are trying to trace how this happened,” Vaish added.
