Veteran South India actress Sowcar Janaki passed away on Friday at the age of 94. Following her death, several actors including Tollywood star Jr NTR, Kamal Haasan, Vishnu Manchu, Prabhu Deva and others from the South Indian film industry remembered the legendary actress and shared their condolences.Tamil veteran Tamil Haasan took to his X handle to call her an “irreplaceable acting artist of South Indian cinema”. He wrote, “From the film *‘Looking at it would quench hunger’* to spanning four decades, we have worked together in many films. She was the mother, I the child. The irreplaceable acting artist of South Indian cinema, Sowcar Janaki. She acted with all the heroes of that time. She was the preferred choice of my guru K. Balachander. She has passed away. A maternal image has departed. I bid her farewell with tears.”
Jr NTR pays tribute to Sowcar Janaki
Jr NTR took to X and shared a long note about the veteran actor. He remembered her contribution to Telugu and Indian cinema and said that her characters will remain in people’s memories.
His post in Telugu loosely translated in English read, “The news of the passing of Shaukaru Janaki Garu, who left her unique mark in Telugu and Indian cinema, has caused immense sorrow. Janaki Garu’s cinematic journey and the characters she portrayed will forever remain in our memories. Praying for peace to her soul… My deepest condolences to the family members.”Megastar Chiranjeevi express his condolences and took to his social media handle to write, “The news of the demise of the renowned actress and Padma Shri awardee Srividya Janaki garu has caused immense sorrow. Vishnu Manchu calls her a legend
Vishnu Manchu also expressed his sadness after hearing about Sowcar Janaki’s death.He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary Sowcar Janaki garu. Her grace, dignity and remarkable body of work will live on for generations.”He also asked young people to learn more about the veteran actor and her contribution to cinema.“For the youngsters today, you must look up what a legendary person she was. My heartfelt condolences to her family. Om Shanti,” he added.
Prabhu Deva remembers veteran actor
Director, actor and choreographer Prabhu Deva also paid his respects to Sowcar Janaki. Sharing a short message, he wrote, “RIP, Sowcar Janaki Amma.”Sowcar Janaki had been hospitalised in Chennai after falling ill due to age-related health issues and was receiving intensive medical care.Nadigar Sangam president Nassar confirmed her death. She died at 1.59 pm on Friday. In his statement, Nassar said, “Legendary star Sowcar Janaki (94) passed away. Her mortal remains will be placed at Centoph Road, Teyampet, from 5 PM.”Fans, friends and members of the film industry will be able to pay their last respects to the veteran actor.Sowcar Janaki had a career that lasted for several decades and included more than 400 films.
