The first teaser trailer for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 is out and it promises to take fans into Middle-earth’s descent into darkness.While glimpses of the Dark Lord, wizards, the Orcs, Elves and Dwarfs flooded the 99-second trailer, it is the emotional reunion between Morfydd Clark‘s Galadriel and Jamie Campbell Bower‘s Celeborn that has set hearts racing. The fantasy epic, touted to be Prime Video’s USD 1 billion dollar project, is set to return this November with Charlie Vickers’ Sauron preparing to forge the One Ring and plunge Middle-earth into darkness.

Amazon debuted the teaser during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, offering a first look at what creators JD Payne and Patrick McKay describe as the series’ ‘darkest chapter eventually’. The footage opens with lightning striking over Barad-dûr as Vickers’ Sauron declares, “Now is the mighty hour come,” signalling the Dark Lord’s growing power in Mordor.

The clip sees Sauron continuing his sinister plans, while his armies prepare for all-out war, agains the forces of Elves, Dwarves, Men and Wizards. However, the standout moment comes when Galadriel is reunited with her long-lost husband Celeborn. The teaser even includes a flashback to their first meeting and a romantic dance sequence, adding an unexpectedly tender note amid the looming doom. Bower joins the cast as the Elven lord Celeborn, Galadriel’s husband and a noble warrior in the fight against Sauron.Season 3 will also introduce the early forms of the Nazgûl, referred to here as Nazgnagôl, offering viewers a glimpse of the corrupted ring-bearers before they become the infamous Ringwraiths.

During the Hall H panel, moderated by Benjamin Walker, who plays High King Gil-galad, several new cast members were announced. Eddie Marsan will portray Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV; Andrew Richardson joins as Anárion, Elendil’s younger son and Isildur’s brother; Adam Young will play Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc “who may not be what he seems”; and Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog.

Prime Video also released the official synopsis for the new season, “In Season Three, Middle-earth is at war. Five years have passed since the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies have marched across the whole of the world, conquering all in their path. Only a few isolated pockets stand between the Dark Lord and total victory – Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves are now sealed deep within their mountain halls, and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, which are protected by their Three Rings. But deep in the land of Mordor, in his newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, the Dark Lord toils day and night, obsessed with harnessing a power that will bring the last of his enemies to their knees: One Ring to rule them all… Now, all the free peoples of Middle-earth – Dwarves, Elves, Men, and Wizards alike – must find a way to come together, in a race against time to prevent Sauron from achieving his goal of utter domination of all life…”The new season pushes the story closer to The Last Alliance of Elves and Men, with Payne and McKay’s sprawling saga now reaching the midpoint of its planned five-season run.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will premiere on Prime Video on 11 November. The release schedule is staggered, with the first four episodes dropping together on 11 November, followed by episodes five and six on 18 November, and the final two episodes on 25 November.
