Aditya Dhar‘s ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ have been receiving massive praise for the “peak” performances delivered by the actors. And not just the lead stars, but even the character actors have nailed their performances. And one of them is Bimal Oberoi, who played the role of Shirani, the leader of Baloch United Force (BUF) and the weapons manufacturer. In an exclusive interaction with ETimes, he talked about how he got on board and his experience working with Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh.

Bimal Oberoi shares how he bagged the role Shirani

During the interaction with ETimes, Bimal Oberoi was asked about what was his first reaction when the role was offered to him. The actor said, “Me career ke uss mod pe tha, jaha pe me kuch pick karu aise nahi tha.” He shared that if the role had been for just one scene, he would have rejected it.

Oberoi added, “When this call came from Mukesh Chhabra’s office, I was told that this was a very important character. It (shooting) could be 10-15 or 20 days.” He revealed that the casting director’s office told him that Aditya Dhar has approved his pictures. Bimal Oberoi revealed that the audition was about 1-1.5 hours long. This went on two or three times, and then he bagged the role. The actor said that he was hoping to come on board. He said, “Because I knew that if I got to play this role, I would be really lucky.”

During the conversation about Aditya Dhar, Bimal Oberoi called ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ a “landmark” film. Oberoi went on to add it to the list of other landmark movies like ‘Gadar’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun?’, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Sholay’, and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.Oberoi said, “Aditya Dhar is so young and does not belong to the industry. He’s an outsider, but he knows the pulse so well. He knows the technique so well. He knows the craft so well.”He said, “Mazak nahi hota, back-to-back tin chaar mahine me, even if you have shot films together, aap aisi do filmein dede! Aur itne saare gaane dede (It’s no joke—back-to-back within three to four months, even if you’ve shot films together, you deliver two such films! And give so many songs too)!”Oberoi went on to add, “I feel Aditya Dhar got a free hand, and he took it, because at one point I guess everyone just decided to let him do whatever he wanted to, as he was so much into it and knows what he is doing.”Praising further, Bimal Oberoi said that Aditya Dhar brought every “Dhurandhar” from their respective fields on board to make a team to work on the project.Oberoi stated that Aditya Dhar managed to incorporate various songs of different genres and eras into the song so aptly. Oberoi shared, “This does not happen, like ek din uthe, eureka moment hogaya ki me yeh gana idhar dalunga (This doesn’t happen—like you just wake up one day and suddenly have a eureka moment that ‘I’ll put this song here’).”Oberoi added, “It only happens when you are into a film, into the process of making that film for years.” Shirani of ‘Dhurandhar’ stated that Aditya Dhar ticked all the boxes of a hit movie, along with working on his craft. He said, “Yeh koi Dhurandhar hi kar sakta hai. Woh Dhurandhar director hai. Unka naam Aditya DhuranDHAR hojana chahiye (Only a true Dhurandhar can do this. He is a Dhurandhar director. His name should become Aditya DhuranDHAR).”

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Sanjay Dutt in the key roles. The movie has crossed Rs 840 crore in India alone. The highest grossing film was released in theaters on March 19, 2026.
