The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is now gearing up to take over the small screens with all-new TV shows after ruling the theatre screens for over a decade.Leading man and producer, Vin Diesel on Monday, confirmed that four live-action television series set in the high-octane universe are currently in development at NBCUniversal. The announcement was made during the company’s upfront presentation, where Diesel revealed that streaming platform Peacock is expanding the blockbuster franchise into television.“Peacock is launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe,” Diesel told the audience during his appearance on stage, as reported by Deadline.Although details about the upcoming web series remain under wraps, Diesel shared, “As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space,” he said.The film’s official handle shared the news with a post that read, “You, the Family, made this happen. 25 years of loyalty. See you soon.”According to the actor, although he was sceptical about the web series, his confidence in taking the franchise to television grew after Donna Langley assumed oversight of NBCUniversal’s television operations last year. “That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space,” he said.The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and will mark the milestone with a special screening of the original film at the Cannes Film Festival. According to reports, the film’s original stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are all expected to attend.Spanning 11 films, the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise has grossed more than USD 7 billion worldwide. The franchise is one of Universal’s most successful cinematic properties. Universal Pictures announced the new movie will be called ‘Fast Forever’, which is set to release in theatres on March 17, 2028. The film will come after ‘Fast X’, which was released in 2023 and directed by Louis Leterrier.
