After getting his license to ‘woo’ as Mr Darcy, Jack Lowden has emerged as a potential frontrunner to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond, in the upcoming 007 reboot.Amid chatter that popular young Hollywood names like Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Henry Cavill and James Norton are in the running to play the English spy, television presenter and author Richard Osman sent the internet into a frenzy when he teased that Lowden may just take over the role. Osman has claimed on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment with co-host Marina Hyde, that that Scottish actor Lowden is among those being seriously considered

“Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before,” Osman said, before revealing that Lowden was the name he had heard. However, he clarified, “It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.”Praising Lowden and his possible casting, Osman added, “Lowden would be an incredible Bond. He’s got real Daniel Craig energy.”

Should he bag the role, it would be yet another iconic role to his credit. The actor also plays Mr Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming ‘Pride and Prejudice’ six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel. The series is currently listed as in post-production and is expected in 2026.

Speculation over who will take over the iconic 007 role has intensified since Craig’s departure, with several high-profile names reportedly being considered for the coveted part. Fans may not have to wait much longer for official confirmation of Craig’s successor as producer Amy Pascal indicated that the identity of the next 007 could be revealed before the end of 2026.Asked by Deadline when fans could expect the announcement, Pascal said, “I would say the end of the year is a good bet.”The next Bond film is currently targeting a 2028 theatrical release, with filmmaker ‘Denis Villeneuve’ attached to direct and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.Reports have suggested that the audition process for the role began in May, with another round of auditions expected to take place this month.
