Rajinikanth returns with ‘Jailer 2’

According to the latest available figures, ‘Jailer 2’ had sold 14.58 lakh tickets across 13,944 shows. Its domestic advance booking gross, including block bookings, stood at Rs 31 cr as of 10 am IST on October 14.
Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala were the leading domestic markets for advance ticket sales. Based on the available trends, the film’s final advance booking gross is projected to reach Rs 40-45 cr in India, while worldwide advance sales could touch Rs 70-80 cr.
These figures have led to predictions of a worldwide Day 1 gross of approximately Rs 125 cr. However, the final collection will depend on ticket sales on release day, including spot bookings and overseas performance.
A possible place among Tamil cinema’s biggest openers
If the projections hold, ‘Jailer 2’ could enter the top three worldwide openers in Tamil cinema. Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ currently leads the list with Rs 151.10 cr, followed by Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’ at Rs 142 cr. ‘The Greatest of All Time’ ranks next with Rs 99.40 cr.
A Rs 125 cr opening would put the sequel ahead of ‘The Greatest of All Time’. However, it would remain approximately Rs 26 cr short of ‘Coolie’.
Box office expectations ahead of release
The sequel is positioned for a potentially major theatrical debut, although its eventual ranking will depend on actual collections. Strong last-minute sales, walk-in audiences and overseas earnings could determine whether it meets or exceeds expectations.
