‘Life was busy… full and fun’
Emma Heming Willis is a model and caregiver advocate best known as the wife of Hollywood actor Bruce Willis. The two had been together for 18 years, a journey that had been tested in ways she never anticipated, but one she said had only grown deeper with time. Last year, she opened up about everything, from the moment she fell for Bruce to the new kind of love she had found with him.
How Emma Heming Willis and Bruce Willis first fell for each other
In an interview with PEOPLE last year, Emma revealed she was introduced to Bruce by her trainer back in 2005. She remembered him as “so charming, so funny, so down-to-earth and so handsome.” But it was a 2007 trip to Turks and Caicos that changed everything. A friend convinced her to accept Bruce’s invitation to join him on vacation, where he was spending time with his daughters and family. “I got to see this other side of Bruce, who was a family man,” she told the outlet. “On that trip, I ended up falling for him really hard. That was the start of our love story.”

The two married in 2009 and went on to welcome daughters Mabel and Evelyn. Their life together was full and joyful. “Life was busy… full and fun,” Emma recalled. “If the girls were swimming in the pool, he would come home, dive in with his clothes on just to get a laugh. He’s the iconic girl dad.”
When Emma Heming Willis and Bruce Willis faced their biggest challenge
In 2022, Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia at age 67, and life as Emma knew it changed completely. “Early on, life felt very dark, very one-note of just grief and sadness,” she said. As a full-time caregiver, she found herself isolated and unprepared, navigating a progressive illness while also parenting their two young daughters on her own.

Rather than letting the circumstances define their relationship, Emma found a way forward and in doing so, discovered a deeper connection with Bruce. “I feel like our love story has only grown and developed more,” she said. “It sounds woo-woo, but it’s just on a more cellular level. I am so grateful that he is very much here, very much a part of our day-to-day.” She also reflected on the quiet moments that meant the most to her. “Sometimes, love does not need words. I can just sit there with Bruce, and we look at each other, and we laugh and smile and that, to me, is more than anything.”Her words served as a reminder that love does not always look the way we plan, but for Emma Heming Willis, it had only become more meaningful with time.
