India’s benchmark equity indices ended sharply lower on Thursday, weighed down by a surge in crude oil prices amid escalating tensions in West Asia. The BSE Sensex fell 829.29 points, or 1.08 per cent, to close at 76,034.42, while the Nifty 50 declined 227.70 points, or 0.95 per cent, to settle at 23,639.15. Analysts said weak global cues, a softer rupee and continued foreign capital outflows further dampened investor sentiment.Meanwhile, India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index, rose to 3.21 per cent in February from 2.74 per cent in January.
